Data Storage & Security Systems
Bayer has a 25- year track record in developing intelligent
materials for optical data storage. In order to address the demands
of the security market, Bayer Innovation has continued to develop a
system which allows the storage of personal data for the identification
of individuals.
Performance of biometrics authentication based on smart
cards is limited by today’s memory chip capacity, being below
1 MB. Future applications call for multiple biometrics images and other
sensitive personal data to be stored on ID cards and travel documents.
For that purpose, Bayer Innovation is developing a holographic card
system called PhenoStor®, composed of writing and reading equipment,
interface with biometrics software and a holographic smart card. The
use of the proprietary PhenoStor®-Technology for other applications
is also under evaluation..
